GroVia Debuts 4 New Prints

Since coming onto the market in early 2009, GroVia (formerly GroBaby) has rapidly captured the attention of the cloth diapering world.  The versatile design helped to start a renewed interest in the ‘all in two’ diapering system. Starting with just 3 colors, a fourth color and 4 prints soon followed. 2 new colors entered earlier this year. With the current 4 prints being retired, GroVia recently released 4 new prints for 2011. The four prints-mod flower, owls, nature and planes- are unique to the GroVia line. As with the last set of prints, 2 are gender neutral while one is boy-centric and the other oriented for girls. The colors are a little earthier and are based from the newer vanilla, cosmos and ice colors.

These prints will actually be available in December 2010. New for December, each print and color will be available in both the snap and hook and loop closures. Currently, only the kiwi, mandarin and vanilla shells are available in snaps. The new all in one  diaper will also be available in some prints as well.

These prints have already generated quite a buzz. Other GroVia products have been hard to find as of late, and these prints may be in high demand as well.  Preordering is available at Snooty Booty Diapers.

Miracle Diapers Is Now The Cloth Diaper Foundation

Empowering families, improving the environment.

As Miracle Diapers has grown so has the number of families they assist. In 2009, they helped over 450 babies directly, more than 100 babies through sponsorship and local distribution, and assisted other charities with the same mission as well!

To better serve those families Miracle Diapers reaccessed it’s structure and practices. They have:

  • New leadership with Roxanna Jolly—CEO and Lisa Johnston—Operations Manager and Board Chair

  • Relocated their headquarters to Katy, Texas

  • Restructured how they process and accept applications

  • Opened a retail store for fundraising

  • Founded a new membership program

  • Welcomed several new board members from the cloth diapering industry

In it’s fifth year Miracle Diapers wants to continue moving forward and has decided to take on a new name that better describes the organization and it’s mission.

Miracle Diapers is now The Cloth Diaper Foundation.

We felt that a more appropriate name would help the community have a better understanding of who we are, as we have often been mistaken for a diaper manufacturer. Our desire to move forward and build a legacy of support for the cloth diapering community will be reflected in our new name: The Cloth Diaper Foundation.”  -Roxanna Jolly, CEO, The Cloth Diaper Foundation

Monetary donations fell last year do to the economy. Which means there are more families out there for The Cloth Diaper Foundation to help! While diaper donations are always appreciated, we must be able to financially support organizational growth. Let’s make this happen together and spread the CD love. Breathing New Life Into Your Cloth Diapers

Even with great care, there may come a time when your cloth diapers are looking a little tired. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to freshen them up!

An added soak or rinse- Sometimes, just adding a soak to the front end of your wash routine or running a cycle with no detergent to the end of it can give your diapers an extra oomph. It’s an easy way to get your diapers extra clean without playing  around with your current wash routine too much.

Toss in the dryer- Many people hang PUL pockets and covers to dry. This can help to lengthen the life of the diaper elastic. Every once and a while, tossing your PUL into the dryer can help to freshen the hook and loop closures. Some diaper makers recommend occasional dryer use as a way to reseal the PUL lamination.

Use the sun- The sun can help to lighten or remove stains on diapers. While your diapers are wet or damp, lay them in the sun for 15-20 minutes.

Clean hook and loop closures- Even though you can’t always see it, there may be a lot of gunk in the hook side of your hook and loop closures. This makes it harder to get a sticky fit.  Try cleaning them out with a seam ripper or pin. You may be surprised at what comes out!

While there are more time-consuming ways to bring  back diapers on the way out (replacing snaps and elastic, “stripping” your diapers to remove build-up, etc.) these quick tips can perk up diapers that are just a little tired!

Don’t give up on a night solution!

For us, the transition from cloth to disposables was a gradual one. After using cloth with success during the day, I ventured into the realm of night diapering. It took a lot of wet sheets, nights back in disposables and every combination of pocket and insert imaginable until I found fleece covers. Paired with a prefold and doubler, the fleece covers allowed us to cloth diaper full time. Success!

My oldest used prefolds and fleece until she potty-trained. When my second daughter was sleeping more than a couple of hours at a time, I didn’t think twice about breaking out our trusty fleece covers again. They worked at first, then one morning I discovered she had soaked through. The next night, I added more absorbency. Another wet morning. Fleece covers just weren’t working for her. Suddenly I was back at square one.

I tried pockets again without success. Instead of resorting to disposables, I tweaked the prefold/cover idea. Instead of fleece, I used a prefold/doubler/PUL cover combination. While it had never worked on my first daughter, this was exactly what my youngest needed. She’s been dry in the morning ever since.

Lately, my younger daughter has been wetting less at night. I’m tempted to try the fleece again, as I think it would hold up now. I now realize that a good night solution doesn’t have to be a forever solution. As my daughter grows and her functions change, the night diaper can change as well.

If you’ve had trouble using cloth at night, maybe it’s time to try again!
