The months of June and July 2008 have become a season of giving cloth diapers away.  Two major groups of sewing women have dedicated portions of June and July for sewing and giving; the This-End-Up Yahoo Group and the Kayla’s Cloth Kits Yahoo Group.

Denise Cole, one of the moderators of the The This-End-Up Yahoo group with 1324 registered members, is collecting both new and used cloth diapers from her group members between June 9 and July 9.  The diapers collected will be donated to Lend A Hand Diapers.  According to the Lend A Hand Website, “Lend A Hand Diapers is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting low income families who wish to cloth diaper their children.” 

Denise is giving away four prizes consisting of diaper sewing supplies!  One will go to the member who sends in the most used cloth diapers, another will go to the member who sends in the most new cloth diapers, and two randomly chosen group members who have donated will receive a prize.  With so many group members, The This-End-Up drive is sure to be a success.

Kayla Rihani, the moderator of the Kayla’s Cloth Kits Yahoo Group is running the KCK Campaign for families in need during the month of June as well.  Many of the 167 members in the KCK Yahoo Group have a slightly different goal-to sew and give cloth diapers away to families in their own communities as a kind of cloth outreach program.  Members are visiting local food pantries, churches, crisis pregnancy centers, women’s shelters and more in search of families who could benefit from cloth diapering. 

Many of the members are sewing the KCK One™-One size fits all diaper to give away to families in their communities.  The KCK One™ is very economical and well suited for families who have multiple children in diapers.  It fits children from birth through the 4 or 5 years old, it air dries in a matter of hours, and a single simple insert can be used for children of any size.  

With so much giving going on, cloth diapers are sure to be a blessing to many families this summer.  If you sew diapers and are interested in participating in these giveaways, join the This-End-Up Yahoo Group or send an email to Kayla requesting a membership in the Kayla’s Cloth Kits Yahoo Group.  If you don’t sew diapers but would still love to participate, you can purchase a KCK One™ diaper from the KCK One™ Bazaar using the discount code “KCK Campaign” for a 15% off discount on any diaper that you want to purchase to give away in your community. 

If you have diapers (new or used) that you would like to give on your own, reach out into your community and give it a try!  Don’t be restricted in your giving – you don’t have to send your diapers to someone else to donate.  You also don’t have to have an established cloth community in your area in order to give cloth diapers away.  If you decide to participate by giving cloth diapers away during June and July, leave a comment here and tell us your story!
